1. What is XtraSaver?
 

XtraSaver is a MasterCard debit card that is linked to its own interest bearing chequing account. With XtraSaver, you can withdraw cash from over 140 ATMs islandwide and make NETS and MasterCard payments. What’s more, enjoy up to 15% CashBack on petrol, on top of prevailing discounts at any petrol station, and attractive CashBack on everything you spend on.

2. What are debit cards?
 

Similar to credit cards, debit cards are signature-based payment modes. As the payment is debited from your account immediately, there is no risk of late charges nor interest charges. With XtraSaver, in addition to signature-based payments, you can also make NETS payments.

4. How does XtraSaver’s CashBack work?
 

XtraSaver’s CashBack is tiered. Based on your average daily balance at calendar month end, the relevant CashBack is calculated and credited into your XtraSaver account on the first working day of the next calendar month.

Example: If at calendar month end, your average daily balance is $7,000, then you will enjoy 7% CashBack on petrol with MasterCard, 1% CashBack on all other MasterCard transactions and 0.5% CashBack on all NETS transactions.

 
5. Are there any caps on XtraSaver’s CashBack?

6. Does XtraSaver’s petrol CashBack apply at all petrol stations in Singapore?
 

XtraSaver’s petrol CashBack is accorded as long as the petrol station’s “merchant category code” is 5541 or 5542.

The “merchant category code” is arranged between the petrol station and the petrol station’s VISA/MasterCard card terminal’s issuing bank. XtraSaver’s petrol CashBack applies on top of prevailing station discounts, at any station in Singapore.

 
7. Does XtraSaver’s petrol CashBack apply at petrol stations outside of Singapore?
 

XtraSaver’s petrol CashBack also applies at petrol stations in Malaysia, where non-EMV compliant MasterCard cards are accepted only. XtraSaver’s petrol CashBack is accorded as long as the petrol station’s “merchant category code” is 5541 or 5542. The “merchant category code” is arranged between the petrol station and the petrol station’s VISA/MasterCard card terminal’s issuing bank.

 
8. Does XtraSaver’s petrol CashBack apply if I pay for my petrol via NETS?
 

No, XtraSaver’s petrol CashBack applies only if you pay for your petrol via MasterCard and does not apply if you pay for your petrol via NETS. If you pay for your petrol via NETS, the CashBack that you receive will be based on XtraSaver’s CashBack rate for all NETS transactions, that is, 0.5% (provided your average daily balance is calendar month end is $6,000 and above).

 
9. What happens if my petrol spend exceeds the monthly cap on petrol CashBack amount?
 

If your petrol spend exceeds the monthly cap on petrol CashBack amount, then the excess petrol spend is entitled to XtraSaver’s CashBack rate for all other MasterCard transactions.

Example: Your average daily balance at calendar month end is $7,000 which means that you enjoy 7% CashBack on petrol and the monthly cap on petrol CashBack amount is $15. If you spend $300 on petrol, then the petrol CashBack amount that you will enjoy is $15 + (1% x $86) = $15.86 (where 1% is XtraSaver’s CashBack rate on all other MasterCard transactions and $86 is excess petrol spend).

 
10. Does XtraSaver’s CashBack on all NETS transactions apply to card card top up via NETS?
 

No, XtraSaver’s CashBack on all NETS transactions does not apply to cash card top up via NETS.

 
11. If I do not spend on petrol, do I enjoy any CashBack with XtraSaver?
 

Yes, the good news for non-drivers is that if you do not spend on petrol of any day of a calendar month, you enjoy double CashBack on all local and overseas MasterCard transactions. If you have $200,000 in your XtraSaver account, your CashBack on all local and overseas MasterCard transactions is 5%. Plus, you continue to enjoy 0.5% CashBack on all NETS transactions.

12. How often and when is the CashBack credited into my XtraSaver account?
 

XtraSaver’s CashBack is credited on a monthly basis. It is calculated based on your average daily balance at calendar month end and is credited into your XtraSaver account on the first working day on the next calendar month.

 
13. How do I know how much CashBack is credited into my XtraSaver account?
 

Your CashBack amount will be reflected as a consolidated total CashBack amount in your monthly statement that will be mailed to you. Your CashBack amount for your petrol transactions with MasterCard, all other MasterCard transactions and all NETS transactions is consolidated as a total amount for your convenience as there is no need to add up the total CashBack amount yourself.

 
14. How do I know how much CashBack is credited into my XtraSaver account?
 

XtraSaver’s CashBack is accorded only if your average daily balance is $6,000 and above. If your average daily balance is less than $6,000, then you will not enjoy any CashBack.

 
15. Is there a minimum spend amount required to enjoy XtraSaver’s CashBack?
 

No, there is no minimum spend amount required to enjoy XtraSaver’s CashBack. You will enjoy XtraSaver’s CashBack as long as your average daily balance at calendar month end is $6,000 and above (Total CashBack amount is subject to monthly cap).

 
16. What happens if the average daily balance at calendar month end in my XtraSaver account is below $6000?
 

XtraSaver's CashBack is accorded only if your average daily balance is $6000 and above, If your average daily balance is less than $6000, then you will not enjoy any CashBack.

 
17. Can my CashBack amount be credited into another account other than my XtraSaver account?
 

No, your CashBack amount will be credited into your XtraSaver account and you cannot choose to credit the CashBack amount into another account.

 
18. Are debit cards safe?
 

Debit cards are as safe as credit cards. There is no further liability once the loss of card is reported. Customers who lose their card should immediately call our 24-hour Phone Banking on 1800 747 7000 so that we can replace the lost card and prevent any further access to it. Customers will only be held liable for transactions conducted prior to reporting the loss to the Bank.

 
19. Are credit card rewards better than CashBack?
 

Research shows that if you convert reward points into a CashBack rate, you will get an average of 0.5%*. In comparison, XtraSaver lets you enjoy CashBack rates of up to 15% on petrol with MasterCard and up to 1.5% on all other MasterCard transactions.

 
20. Does my money earn higher interest in Time Deposits?
 

For deposit amounts of less than $50,000, prevailing Time Deposit interest rates are between 0.25% p.a. to 0.85% p.a. With XtraSaver, based on an account balance of $7,000 and an expenditure of $1,000 per month, the effective rate of benefit is 3.8% p.a.

The time difference between transaction date and settlement date varies but should not be more than five days. This could mean that some of your month end transactions' CashBack may be accorded to you next month, provided your balance is $6,000 and above.

5. Is there a charge for withdrawing cash with my XtraSaver Card in Singapore?
 

No, with your XtraSaver Card and all Standard Chartered Bank ATM cards, cash withdrawals from ATMs in the atm 5 Shared ATM Network is absolutely free.

 
6. Can I use my XtraSaver Card to withdraw cash when I am overseas?
 

Yes, you can use your XtraSaver Card to withdraw cash from Cirrus ATMs when you are overseas.

 
7. Is there a charge for withdrawing cash with my XtraSaver Card when I am overseas?
 

Yes, cash withdrawals from Cirrus ATMs will be charged at 2% of the withdrawal amount or a minimum of S$5 (capped at a maximum of S$60).

 
8. Other than cash withdrawals, can I use my XtraSaver Card to access other ATM functions e.g. Balance enquiry?
 

Yes, other than cash withdrawals, you can use your XtraSaver Card to access all other ATM functions.

 
9. Will cheque books be auto replenished?
 

Yes, once you are down to the last few cheques, a new cheque book will be automatically mailed to you.
